    DEATH: No death rec found. See the adm of estate of James Fales of Dedham, 21 Jun 1756, inv at Fort William Henry, NY, 17 Feb 1756, and inv at Dedham, 22 Jun 1756, Suffolk Co. Probate, #11292, (o.s.) 51:428, 519-20 (FHL #493874). James apparently died while in military service at Ft. William Henry, NY. This area was the scene of intense conflict during the French and Indian War at this time. James died unmarried, as David Fales, apparently his uncle, administered the estate. An abstract of the muster roll of Capt. Benjamin Johnson's Co. shows that James Fales was an ensign in the Crown Point Expedition, serving from 10 Sep-29 Nov 1755. He may have died on the latter date, but the roll does not indicate that he died in the service (Massachusetts Archives, 94:81, by corr, 10 Oct 1995).

She was probably a dau of Benjamin Vail of Pomfret, as the account of his estate, 19 May 1809, shows that Oliver Fales had a claim of $2.70 (Windsor Co. Probate, Hartford District, 3:600 [FHL #029160]). Hence, it appears that Oliver Fales married Polly S. Vail.

    BIRTH: No birth rec found. She is called "Great" Fales, daughter of Eliphalet and Sarah in Henry Hobart Vail, POMFRET, VERMONT, 2 vols. (Boston, 1930), 2:487 (FHL #974.365/P2 H2v). Circumstantial evidence suggests this is correct, as her age shows she could fit into this family, the only Fales family in the area. She was living in Sharon, Vermont when she married Hezekiah Pierce in 1803. Date and place of birth are approximations. It is known that Eliphalet Fales was living in Sharon, Mass. when he purchased his farm in Pomfret, Vermont, 3 May 1793 (Pomfret Deeds, 2:12 [FHL #028667]). Tax rolls of Sharon, Mass. show that Eliphalet was taxed there, 1787-93 (FHL #940502/3). She is called "Grata" on mar rec, below.

Circumstantial evidence suggests this is correct, as her age shows she could fit into this family, the only Fales family in the area. She was living in Pomfret, Vermont when she married Varnum Brown in 1812. Date and place of birth are approximations. It is known that Eliphalet Fales was living in Sharon, Mass. when he purchased his farm in Pomfret, Vermont, 3 May 1793 (Pomfret Deeds, 2:12 [#028667]). Tax rolls of Sharon, Mass. show that Eliphalet was taxed there, 1787-93 (FHL #940502/3). She is called "Clarissa" Fales on mar rec, below.

    BIRTH: No birth rec found. Willard is identified as a minor son of Eliphalet Fales, late of Pomfret, above the age of 14, in guardianship rec, 2 Feb 1808, Windsor Co. Probate, Hartford District, 3:468 (FHL #029160). Date and place of birth are approximations. His age in guardianship infers that he was born 1787-94. It is known that Eliphalet Fales was living in Sharon, Mass. when he purchased his farm in Pomfret, Vermont, 3 May 1793 (Pomfret Deeds, 2:12 [FHL [#028667]). Tax rolls of Sharon, Mass. show that Eliphalet was taxed there, 1787-93 (FHL #940502/3).
    MAR: No mar rec found. A wife "Nabby" (pet name for Abigail) administered his estate, below.
