NOTE: Joseph came to New England with his sister Elizabeth Heath on the ship "Hopewell" in 1635 (Peter Wilson Coldham, THE COMPLETE BOOK OF EMIGRANTS, 1607-1660 [Baltimore, 1987], 159 [FHL #973 W2col]). It is believed by some that he settled in Newton, Mass. and married Mary Pope. See Spencer Miller, "The Millers of Bishop's Stortford," NYGBR, 70(1939):345-48 (FHL #974 B2n). There are other theories concerning the identity of Joseph Miller of Newton, one of which makes him a son of Richard Miller of Charlestown. The evidence is not conclusive.
