- BIRTH: No birth/chr rec found. John is identified in the will of his father, Godfrey Sheldon of Scarborough, 13 Mar 1663/4, proved 3 Apr 1671 (PROVINCE AND COURT RECORDS OF MAINE, 6 vols. [Portland, ME, 1928-75], 2:423-24 [FHL #974.1 P2p]). Date and place of birth are approximations. It is stated that John was baptized at Bakewell, 8 May 1628, in Sybil Noyes, Charles Thornton Libby, and Walter Goodwin Davis, GENEALOGICAL DICTIONARY OF MAINE AND NEW HAMPSHIRE (Portland, ME, 1928-39; repr Baltimore, 1979), 627 (FHL #974 D2s). However, this chr was not found in a search of the par reg.
MAR: Edward F. Johnson, ed, WOBURN RECORDS, 8 vols. (Boston, 1890-1916), 3:250 (FHL #974.44/W3 V2j). Entry states mar occurred at Billerica. Wife is called Mary Thompson, widow. She is apparently the widow of Simon Thompson who died at Woburn in May 1658. Simon Thompson and Mary Converse were married at Woburn, 19 Dec 1643 (Ibid, 3:275).
