MAR #1: The will of Lydia's mother, widow Mary Gilbert of Hartford, below, mentions a dau Lydia Chapman and grandson Jonathan Richardson, son of her dau Lydia "by her husband Richardson deceased." Hence, Lydia married (1) a Richardson, and (2) a Chapman. The distribution of the estate of Stephen Chapman of Stonington, Conn., deceased, made by Lydia Chapman on 3 Jun 1703, lists Jonathan Richardson among the children. In this document, Stephen Chapman's will is referred to as made on 2 July 1694, but the will is not now extant (New London, Conn. District Probate Files, #4415 [FHL #1025043]).
MAR #2: She is called Lydia "Chapman" in her mother's will, below. The will was challenged by "Capt. Chapman," apparently Lydia's husband. He is no doubt the Capt. John Chapman of Haddam, whose estate was distributed on 28 Mar 1712 (Hartford District Probate Files, #1170 [FHL #1020565]). Among those receiving a portion of John Chapman's estate was a son-in-law (i.e. stepson) Lemuel Richardson, who is mentioned as the son of Lydia's first husband Stephen Chapman in the distribution of his estate, above. Lemuel Richardson married Mehitable Chapman at Stonington, 15 Dec 1709 ("Stonington Births, Marriages, Deaths, 1658-1854," Barbour Collection [typescript, 1918; Conn. State Library, Hartford], 49 [FHL #002980]).
DEATH: No death rec found. Lydia is mentioned in the will of her mother, widow Mary Gilbert of Hartford, 23 May 1700, proved 10 Jul 1700, Hartford District Probate, abstracted in Charles W. Manwaring, ed, DIGEST OF THE EARLY CONNECTICUT PROBATE RECORDS, 3 vols. (Hartford, 1904-1906), 2:64-65 (FHL #974.6 P2m).
