- BIRTH: Date and place of birth are approximations. Nicholas was probably the son of Robert Derby of Askerswell, but this is not yet proved. See discussion in G. Andrews Moriarty, "Genealogical Research in England-Derby," NEHGR, 79(1925):429-31 (FHL #974 B2ne).
MAR: No mar rec found. Adm of estate of Nicholas Derby of Sterthill, below, was granted to widow Catherine. It is believed that she is the dau Catherine identified in the will of Alexander Buckler of Woolcombe Matravers, Dorset, 24 Feb 1567, proved 30 Mar 1568, P.C.C., 6 Babington (FHL #091946). Alexander Buckler, age 34, apparently a grandson of the above testator, deposed in the chancery suit of John Every v. Christopher Derby, 9 June 1602, that Nicholas Derby was his uncle (Town Depositions, Chancery, Trinity Term, 44 Eliz. [1602], cited in Moriarty, "Genealogical Research," NEHGR, 79:419-20.
