Notes	BIRTH: Date of birth is calculated from age 70 on deposition, 17 Mar 1722, cited in John O. Austin, GENEALOGICAL DICTIONARY OF RHODE ISLAND (Albany, NY, 1887), 13 (FHL #022257). He was probably the son of James Barber, a member of the Newport Town Council, 20 Jul 1667 (John Russell Bartlett, ed, RECORDS OF THE COLONY OF RHODE ISLAND AND PROVIDENCE PLANTATIONS, 10 vols. [Providence, 1856-65], 2:213-14 [FHL #974.5 N29r]). James owned a half share in Westerly lands in 1661 (NARRAGANSETT HISTORICAL REGISTER, 1[1882-83]:319 [FHL #022253]). MAR #1: No mar rec found. Three children were born before mar to Susannah West, but the name of this earlier wife is unknown. MAR #2: South Kingstown Town Council & Probate, 1:2:31 (FHL #931833). The mar is also recorded in North Kingstown Vital Records, 1:29 (FHL #930980). These two towns were created from Kingstown in 1722/3. The mar actually occurred in the town of Kingstown, which is now extinct. DEATH: No death rec found.
