MAR #1: No mar rec found. John deeded land to his "sons-in-law" [stepsons] Jabez and Ebenezer Harger on 3 Jan 1711/2 (Derby, Conn. Deeds, 3:73 [FHL #004058]). These are the sons of Jabez and Margaret (Tomlinson) Harger. See the will of Jabez Harger of Derby, 15 Jun 1678, no probate act, inv 12 Jan 1678/9, New Haven District Probate, 1:2:72-73 (FHL #005294). Also see Donald Lines Jacobus, HISTORY AND GENEALOGY OF THE FAMILIES OF OLD FAIRFIELD, 2 vols. in 3 (Fairfield, CT, 1930; repr Baltimore, 1976), 1:260-61 (FHL #974.69/F1 D2j). Jabez Harger and Margaret Tomlinson were married at Stratford, Connecticut, 5 Nov 1662. Hence, it is believed that John Tibbals married Margaret (Tomlinson), widow of Jabez Harger. A Margaret Tibbals died at Derby, 17 Mar 1697/8, presumably the wife of John Tibbals.
MAR #2: "Derby Births, Marriages, Deaths, 1655-1852," Barbour Collection (typescript, 1925; Conn. State Library, Hartford), 99 (FHL #002969). Wife is called "Hannah Harger." She was apparently the widow of Samuel Harger, the son of John's 1st wife (see above). In 1723 Jabez Harger of Derby quitclaimed his interest in the lands of his "brother Samuel Harger deceased" to Hannah Tibbals and her daughter Margaret, wife of Joseph Johnson, "being the only heirs of the estate of Samuel Harger late of Derby deceased" (Derby Deeds, 3:73 [FHL #004058]). The will of John Tibbals, below mentions a wife Hannah and daughter Margaret Johnson. It is clear, therefore, that Hannah Tibbals was the widow of Samuel Harger, who died at Derby, 18 Fen 1697. Hannah appears to have been married to Isaac Stiles previous to her mar to Samuel Harger. Samuel Harger of Derby and Hannah Stiles of Stratford were married on 9 May 1693 ("Derby Births, Marriages, Deaths," Barbour Collection, 45). Hannah Stiles made oath to the inv of estate of Isaac Stiles of Stratford, 15 Feb 1691/2. The inv makes reference to Isaac's "right in the homelot of Robert Rose by virtue of his [Stiles's] wife" (Fairfield District Probate, 4:100-101 [FHL #004287]). Hence, Hannah, dau of Robert Rose, married (1) Isaac Stiles, (2) Samuel Harger, and (3) John Tibbals.
