- BIRTH: There is no proof that John is a son of Nicholas, but he is generally accepted as such because of his age, the rarity of the Lobdell name, and his appearance in Hingham, where Nicholas Lobdell resided. Date and place of birth are approximations. See Douglas Richardson, "Nicholas Lobdell, Founder of the New England Lobdell Family," TAG, 54(1978):35-37 (FHL #973 D25aga). That he is a brother if Isaac Lobdell is suggested by a deed from Isaac Lobdell of Hull to John Lobdell of Hull, 12 May 1670 (Suffolk Co. Deeds, 6:190 [FHL #493933]). Also see the will of John Lobdell, below, which was witnessed by Isaac Lobdell.
MAR #1: "Hobart's Journal" [Rev. Peter Hobart, et al], unpaginated (FHL #423526). Wife is called Hannah "Leavitt"; however John's will and estate records, below, idientify his father-in-law as "John Leverett."
MAR #2: "Hobart's Journal." Date of mar is given, but wife's name is missing. The will of John Lobdell, below, mentions his "father Bosworth," and the inv states Nathaniel Bosworth paid for "my sons buriall." The will of Nathaniel Bosworth, of Bristol, Mass. (now RI), 15 Mar 1689/90-20 Nov 1690, mentions a dau Mary (no surname), and later in the document Mary Lobdell is mentioned without indicating a relationship (Bristol Co. Probate, 1:26-27 [FHL #461882). It is believed, therefore, that John Lobdell's 2nd wife was Mary, dau of Nathaniel Bosworth.
