- BIRTH: The Marlar pedigree in the 1612 Herald's Visitation of Essex indicates John was from Kelvedon (Walter C. Metcalfe, ed, THE VISITATIONS OF ESSEX, Publications of the Harleian Society, Visitation Series, vol. 13 [London, 1878], 470 [FHL #942 B4h]). John may be a son of an earlier John Lyngwood of record in Kelvedon in 1515. See B. L. Kentish, KELVEDON AND ITS ANTIQUITIES (London, 1970), 68 (FHL #942.67/K2 H2k). It is possible that the wife of this elder John Lyngwood was Christian, whose will named a son John as executor. See the will of Christian Lyngwood of Kelvedon, 24 [illeg] 1542-4 Dec 1543, Archdeaconry Court of Colchester, reg wills, 4:250 (FHL #091233). The gender of Christian is not indicated, but the name was usually female at this time. The Lyngwood Pedigree in the 1612 Herald's Visitation of Essex, above, indicates John was derived from the Lyngwoods of Hereford and Gloucester (THE VISITATIONS OF ESSEX, 440). Date of birth is an approximation.
MAR #1: No mar rec found. John obviously a had wife prior to Jane Marlor. He had adult children and grandchildren in 1597, when he made his will, below. He may be the John Lyngwood who married Agnes Wheler in the par of Sisted, 16 Jan 1541; although this would make him somewhat older than has been estimated.
