  Notes	BIRTH: No birth rec found. James is identified in the distribution of estate of his father, Thomas Bird of Hartford, 3 Mar 1663/4, Hartford District Probate, abstracted in Charles W. Manwaring, ed, DIGEST OF THE EARLY CONNECTICUT PROBATE RECORDS, 3 vols. (Hartford, 1904-1906), 1:97 (FHL #974.6 P2m). Date and place of birth are approximations. MAR #1: "Farmington Births, Marriages, Deaths, 1645-1850," Barbour Collection (typescript, 1927; Conn. State Library, Hartford), 14 (FHL #002970). It is doubtful that James had any surviving children by his first wife. The will of John Steele, father of Lydia, named his children and grandchildren. There are no Bird grandchildren mentioned. See the will of John Steele of Farmington, 30 Jan 1663, proved 16 Jun 1665, abstracted in Manwaring, DIGEST, 1:239-40. MAR #2: No mar rec found, nor has any mention of the name of James's 2nd wife been found, although she is referred to in Farmington Congregational Church records without name on 15 Jun 1673 and 1 Mar 1679/80 (NEHGR, 12[1858]:35, 328 [FHL #974 B2ne]).
