- BIRTH: No chr rec found in Bethersden par reg, BTs, or nonconformist church registers of Bethersden. Nevertheless, there are several recs indicating William was born in Bethersden in 1821. See entry for William Cowell, age 31, born in Bethersden, 1851 census of Bethersden, HO107/1621, fo. 218, p. 11 (FHL #193522); William Cowell, age 40, born in Bethersden, 1861 census of Bethersden, RG 9/513, fo. 11, entry 15 (FHL #542652). Family Bible entries of Kitty (Chittenden) Cowell indicate William was born in 1821 (photocopy in possession of Susan Fales, Provo, Utah). Admission and Discharge Register, West Ashford Union Workhouse, 14 Dec 1898, indicates William Cowell was born in 1821 (Kent Co. Archives, Maidstone [research by Susan Fales 21 Sep 1979]). Mar cert, below, identifies father as Thomas Cowell.
