Six sons of Charles Henry Bassett operated a stagecoach and freight hauling business from Beaver Canyon,
Idaho to Yellowstone Park from 1880 to 1896. Some of them were in Virginia City, Montana the winter of
1880-81 as mail carriers at the time the vigilantes were ridding the town of thieves. No one was safe leaving the
town because of thieves and murderers along the main road. They saved themselves by abandoning their horses
and gear and walking out away from the main road.
