- BIRTH: Ruth is called eldest dau in the will of her father, John Pickworth of Manchester, 27 Jun 1663, proved 25 Nov 1663 (THE PROBATE RECORDS OF ESSEX COUNTY, 3 vols. [Salem, MA, 1916-20], 1:428-29 [FHL #974.45 P2p]). Date of birth is an approximation.
CHR: VITAL RECORDS OF SALEM, 6 vols. (Salem, MA, 1916-25), 2:176 (FHL #974.45/S1 V2e). Ruth was one of three children of John Pickworth baptized on 14 Oct 1638 without parents names.
MAR: No mar rec found. She is referred to as Ruth "Masterson" in the will of her father, John Pickworth, above. She is called Ruth "Masters" in the will of her mother, Ann Pickworth of Manchester, 10 May 1682, proved 3 Apr 1683 (RECORDS AND FILES OF THE QUARTERLY COURTS OF ESSEX COUNTY, 9 vols. [Salem, MA, 1911-75], 9:79-80 [FHL #974.45 P2e]). The will of Ruth's brother, Benjamin Pickworth (no place of residence given), 20 Aug 1681, proved 27 Sep 1681, refers to his "brother" Nathaniel Masters (Ipswich, Mass. Deeds, 4:415 [FHL #873019]). The mar of Nathaniel Masters and Ruth Pickworth probably occurred abt 1653/4. On 29 Jun 1654 Nathaniel Masters was presented to the Salem Court for "his wife being with child by him before they were married, the act having been committed in Pequott Harbor [New London]" (RECORDS AND FILES, 1:360).
