- BIRTH: No birth rec found. James Cottle of Chilmark sold land in Amesbury to Robert Cathcart of Tisbury, which "I hold by virtue of a deed from my brother Edward Cottle," 16 [illeg] 1712 (Dukes Co. Deeds, 2:343 [FHL #911711]). Edward is a proved son of Edward Cottle, Sr. James must have been born during the gap between siblings Edward (b. 1666) and Judith (b. 1670). Amesbury vital recs are incomplete for this period. Edward Cottle, Sr, was living in Amesbury on 5 Oct 1668, when he sold land there to Richard Currier (Essex Co. Deeds, 24:67 [FHL #866024]).
MAR: No mar rec found. James's wife Elizabeth consented to a deed to Robert Cathcart, above. She also consented to a deed from James Cottle to son John Cottle, 8 Mar 1725/6 (Dukes Co. Deeds, 6:25 [FHL #911713]). Elizabeth Cottle is identified in the will of her father, Thomas Look of Tisbury, 4 Dec 1725-(1st Tuesday) Jan 1725/6, Dukes Co. Probate, 2:3-5 (FHL #911747).
