MAR #1: Ibid, 2:442. Wife is called Mary "Merrill" on mar rec. She was apparently the widow of Peter Merrill, who died at Newbury before 14 Apr 1697, when his widow Mary administered his estate (Essex Co. Probate, [o.s.] 305:251 [FHL #860251]). Peter Merrill of Newbury married Mary Brown, dau of Isaac and Rebecca Brown. See deed from Peter Merrill to Thomas Brown, 16 Apr 1696, conveying 28 acres in Newbury, which he purchased from his mother-in-law, Rebecca Brown (Essex Co. Deeds, 41:63-64 [FHL #866032]). Also see receipt from John Sawyer and wife Mary to their mother Rebecca Brown alias Doggett and their brother Thomas Brown for interest in the estate of their father Isaac Brown, late of Newbury, deceased (Ibid, 69:244-45 [FHL #866044]).
MAR #2: VITAL RECORDS OF NEWBURY, 2:441. This is a mar intention; actual mar rec not found. Intentions were also recorded at Salem, 20 Nov 1710 (VITAL RECORDS OF SALEM, 6 vols. [Salem, MA, 1916-25], 4:290 [FHL #974.45/S1 V2e]). Wife is called Sarah "Sibley" on mar rec. Adm of estate of Samuel Sibley, late of Salem, was granted to his widow "Sarah Sawyer alias Sibley" and her husband John Sawyer (Essex Co. Probate [o.s.], 310:440 [FHL #875126]). Samuel Sibley and Sarah Wells were married at Salem, 13 Sep 1695 (VITAL RECORDS OF SALEM, 4:307).
