BIRTH: No birth/chr rec found. Rev. Leonard Metcalf deposed in 1614 that he was 73 years old and born in Apperside in the North Riding of Yorks. Apperside is a hamlet in the parish of Wensley. The deposition is in the Consistorial Deposition Books, Diocesan Registry at Norwich (cited in Charles Edward Banks, "Genealogical Research in England - Metcalf, NEHGR, 80[1926]:313 [FHL #974 B2ne]).
MAR: No mar rec found. Amy Metcalf, probably the wife of Leonard Metcalf, was buried in Tatterford, 22 Dec 1602 (Frederick Johnson, ed, "A CompleteTranscript of the 1st Volume of the Parish of Tatterford" [transcript, 1893], 7 [FHL #894714 item 6]). Leonard was the minister of Tatterford and had come from Yorkshire. Virtually all Metcalfs in Tatterford were related to Leonard at this time.
