    DEATH: No death/bur rec found. William is mentioned in the will of his brother, Mark Lothrop of North Cave, Yorks, 3 Jan 1659/60, proved 17 Apr 1660, P.C.C., 54 Nabbs (FHL #092264).

    Notes:

    BIRTH: Thomas is identified in will of his father, Robert Lowthrop of Cherry Burton, 16 Jul 1558, proved 20 Oct 1558, P.C.Y. reg wills, 15:3:123 (FHL #099470). He is also called "eldest son" in will of his mother, Ellen Lowthroppe of Cherry Burton, 7 Feb 1572/3-26 Feb 1572/3, P.C.Y., reg wills, 19:280 (FHL #099475). Date and place of birth are approximations.
    MAR #1: South Cave, Yorks par reg (transcript, n.d.; Yorkshire Archaelogical Society), 2 (FHL #098550). The wife is called "Elizabeth Clarke," but it is clear that Clarke was the surname of a previous husband, as the will of Ellen Lowthroppe, above, gives to Alice Clark, dau of Elizabeth, wife of her son Thomas Lowthroppe.
    MAR #2: No mar rec found. Maud, wife of Thomas Lowthroppe, was buried on 26 June 1588 (Etton par reg by corr, Humberside Record Office, Beverley, Yorks, 15 Aug 1995). This wife is not Mary Salte as stated in Archibald F. Bennett, "The Ancestry of Joseph Smith," THE UTAH GENEALOGICAL AND HISTORICAL MAGAZINE (1929), 20:67 (FHL #979.2 H25u). Evidence disproving this connection is found in H. Sydney Grazebrook, ed, THE HERALDIC VISITATIONS OF STAFFORDSHIRE, 1614 AND 1663-64 (London, 1885), 199 (FHL #942.46 D23gr). In the 1614 pedigree of Lathrop of Crakemarsh, Thomas Lathrop, husband of Mary Salte, was living in Leigh, Staffs in 1614. The ancestral Thomas Lothrop was buried in Etton, Yorks in 1606.

    MAR: No mar rec found. Maud, wife of Thomas Lowthroppe, was buried on 26 June 1588, below. This wife is not Mary Salte as stated in Archibald F.     Notes:

    BIRTH: No proof has been found that Robert is son of John Lowthroppe, but John was the only Lowthroppe taxed in lay subsidies at Cherry Burton, 1523/4. Also both John and Robert were together as defendants in court in 1533/4. See Star Chamber Proceedings, Henry VIII, 9:61, 62, cited in G. Andrews Moriarty, "Genealogical Reseach in England," NEHGR, 84(1930):437-38 (FHL #974 B2ne). In this article Moriarty wrote that Robert "was undoubtedly the son of the John Lowthrop who was taxed at Cherry Burton in 1523/4 and was one of the defendants in the Star Chamber case in the reign of Henry VIII."
