Samuel's birth in Braintree is suggested by the family's continued residence in the town from at least 1617-1635. Samuel's father, Joseph Loomis, is called "of Braintree" in the will Samuel's grandfather, Robert White of Messing, 27 May 1617-20 Jun 1617, Archdeaconry Court of Colchester, orig wills, 8:40 (FHL #091258). Furthermore, Joseph Loomis was a member of the Braintree parish vestry from 1619-1635 (F. G. Emmison, EARLY ESSEX TOWN MEETINGS [London, 1970], 11-50 passim (FHL #942.67 K2e).
