BIRTH: Nicholas is identified in the will of his mother, widow Christian Clapp of Sidbury, 25 Jul 1608, proved 12 Aug 1608, Court of the Dean and Chapter of Exeter, abstracted in Olive M. Moger, "Transcript of Devonshire Wills," 44 vols. (typescript, n.d.), 9:1210 (FHL #916870). He is called "brother" in the will of Peter Clapp of Sidbury, 26 Mar 1622, proved 10 Jan 1622/3, Court of the Dean and Chapter of Exeter, abstracted in Moger, "Devonshire Wills," 9:1214. Peter is a proved son of Richard Clapp of Sidbury. Date and place of birth are approximations.
MAR: No mar rec found. A wife Elizabeth is mentioned in his own will, below, and in the will of his mother, above.

BIRTH: Richard is identified in the will of his father, William Clapp of Sidbury, 29 May 1555, proved 26 Jul 1555, Court of the Dean and Chapter of Exeter, fo. 131, abstracted in Olive M. Moger, "Transcript of Devonshire Wills," 44 vols. (typescript, n.d.), 9:1207 (FHL #916870). Wills of this court were destroyed in 1942. Date and place of birth are approximations.
MAR #1: No mar rec found. The will of his widow Christian Clapp, below, fails to mention the elder children, suggesting they are the children of a previous wife. The will of William Clapp, above, indicates Richard had two sons by 1552.

Christian's will, below, identifies her son Nicholas, who is called "brother" in the will of Peter Clapp of Sidbury, 26 Mar 1622, proved 10 Jan 1622/3, Court of the Dean and Chapter of Exeter, abstracted in Olive M. Moger, "Transcript of Devonshire Wills," 44 vols. (typescript, n.d.), 12:1214 (FHL #916870). Peter, who is probably, a half-brother to Nicholas, is a son of Richard Clapp of Sidbury, as shown by his mar rec at Sidmouth. Hence, Christian is the widow of Richard Clapp.
