NOTE: He is possibly the John Davis who settled in Newbury, Mass. with wife Eleanor. James and Thomas settled briefly in Newbury before removal to Haverhill. It should also be noted that John Davis of Newbury named a son Ephraim, perhaps after his brother.

BIRTH: Date and place of birth are approximations. John is identified in the will of his mother, Agnes Davis, widow, of Acton Turville, 10 Mar 1587, proved 9 Jul 1589, Consistory Court of Gloucester, orig wills, 1589, #2 (FHL #091384). As executor and residual legatee it is probable that John is the eldest son.
MAR #1: The identity of this wife cannot be determined with certainty. She died before 17 Jul 1624 when John married his 2nd wife. She is probably the Agnes Davis buried at Acton Turville, 23 Jan 1622/3. Ann Davis is mentioned in the undated will of John's brother, Thomas Davis of Acton Turville, proved 3 Mar 1623/4, Consistory Court of Gloucester, orig wills, 1623, #120 (FHL #091398). No relationship is stated in the will, but Ann is mentioned immediately following his bequest to John. The names Ann and Agnes were used interchangeably during this time.
