    CHR: Wincanton par reg (FHL #1526792 item 19). Thomas Cromwell and John Cromwell, both of Salem, testified on 27 Jun 1682 that they came on the same ship with Hugh Jones about 1651, and that he and others were from Wincanton, Bucks (Essex Co. Deeds, 6:168 [FHL #866017]).

    BIRTH: No birth/chr rec found. John administered the estate of Ralph Tomkins of Salem, 27 Nov 1666, although the rec does not state his relationship to Ralph (THE PROBATE RECORDS OF ESSEX COUNTY, 3 vols. [Salem, MA, 1916-20], 2:75-76 [FHL #974.45 P2p]). However, John is called "brother" in the will of Samuel Tomkins of Bridgewater, Mass., 20 May 1673, proved 7 Nov 1695, Plymouth Co. Probate, 1:228-29 (FHL #550708). Samuel is a proved son of Ralph Tomkins. John was probably born in 1609 for which year there are no BTs for Wendover.

Date of birth is calculated from age 50 on passenger list of the ship "Truelove" from London to New England, 19 Sep 1635 (Peter Wilson Coldham, THE COMPLETE BOOK OF EMIGRANTS, 1607-1660 [Baltimore, 1987], 167 [FHL #973 W2col]).

    MAR #2: No mar rec found. Samuel Aborne calls the wife of Ralph Tomkins his sister in the estate records of the latter, below. No rec of her given name has been found in original source records, but she is called Hannah Aborne in Sidney Perley, THE HISTORY OF SALEM, 3 vols. (Salem, MA, 1924-28), 1:426 (FHL #974.45/S1 H2ps).
