BIRTH: No birth/chr rec found. No proof has been found that Peter is a son of Thomas Blossom, but his name, age, and residence in Barnstable leave little doubt of his parentage. Thomas Blossom was the only man of this name in the colony, and Thomas's widow removed to Barnstable with her 2nd husband. Peter was born in 1627 or later, as he was not 16 in 1643 when the list of men in the colony able to bear arms was compiled. He was most likely born in Leyden, Holland where the family resided, 1609-1629.

BIRTH: Date and place of birth are approximations. No proof is found that Sarah is the dau of Robert Bodfish, but it can hardly be doubted, as Robert's was the only Bodfish family in the colony at this time. Furthermore, Robert's widow removed to Barnstable after her marriage to Samuel Hinckley in 1657. Sarah married in Barnstable in 1663.

BIRTH: Thomas's place as a son of Peter Blossom of Gt. Shelford and Stapleford is not proved but seems highly probable. Thomas married at Cambridge in 1605, but his baptism is not found in any of the Cambridge parishes. It is known that Peter Blossom's widow Annabel married Richard Bracher at nearby Stapleford and removed to Cambridge where Richard Bracher died. Annabel was granted administration of the estate of Richard Bracher of Cambridge on 4 Oct 1617. The will of Peter Blossom of Stapleford, 12 June 1597, proved 16 Jul 1597 mentions minor children but does not name them, suggesting he had children younger than those found in the par reg of Great Shelford (Consistory Court of Ely, reg wills, V:367 [FHL #173476]). It is also noteworthy that Thomas named one of his own sons Peter, which was unusual for a devout Puritan unless the child was named for a close family member. Vital Records," MAYFLOWER DESCENDANT, 6[1904]:98 [FHL #974.4 D25md]). It is likely that this Bridget is the widow of Robert Bodfish who died in 1651. Samuel Hinckley was an older man with grown children when he married Bridget. They had no children of their own. The wording of Samuel's will also suggests that Bridget was previously married. See the will of Samuel Hinckley of Barnstable, 8 Oct 1662, proved 4 Mar 1662/3, Plymouth Colony Probate, 2:2:2-3 (FHL #567794).
DEATH: Sandwich Vital Records, 1:229 (FHL #904579). The year of death cannot be read on the microfilm copy due to excessive wearing of the original page. The year reads "165 [worn]" in "Sandwich, Mass. Vital Records", MAYFLOWER DESCENDANT, 14(1912):171 (FHL #974.4 D25md). The following entry on the page is dated 1654. Earlier local and family historians claim the year of Robert's death was 1651 (Frederick Freeman, THE HISTORY OF CAPE COD, 2 vols. [Boston, 1859-62], 2:49 [FHL #974.492 H2ff]; also Amos Otis, GENEALOGICAL NOTES OF BARNSTABLE FAMILIES, 2 vols.[Barnstable, MA, 1888-90], 1:68 [FHL #974.492/B1 D2oa]). It seems likely that the date was still legible when the earlier works were written.
