MAR #2: No mar rec found. The gravestone of Mercy, wife of Peter Buell, died 4 Jul 1688, aged 22 yrs, is found in Hop Meadow Cemetery, Simsbury ("Headstone Inscriptions Town of Simsbury," Charles R. Hale Collection, Hop Meadow Cemetery, #122-1, p. 46 [FHL #003362]).
MAR #3: "Simsbury Births, Marriages, Deaths, 1670-1855," Barbour Collection (typescript, 1928; Conn. State Library, Hartford), 22 (FHL #002979). Wife is called "Widow Bissell," but pre-nuptial agreement, 28 Jun 1698, calls her Mary Bissell, widow of Jacob Bissell (Simsbury Deeds, 1-1/2:150-51 [FHL #005621]). No mar rec has been found for Jacob Bissell and his wife Mary, but it is believed she is the dau of Jonathan Gillett of Windsor, whose will, 25 Aug 1694-5 Apr 1698, mentions dau Mary, and inv of estate calls her Mary Bissell, age 31. See abstract from Hartford District Probate in Charles W. Manwaring, ed, DIGEST OF THE EARLY CONNECTICUT PROBATE RECORDS, 3 vols. (Hartford, 1904-1906), 1:557 [FHL #974.6 P2m]). Miriam Gillett, widow of Jonathan, witnessed the above pre-nuptial agreement. Date of this agreement suggests the mar date in vital recs is one year late.
