    BIRTH: No birth rec found. Sarah is identified as a 17-year-old dau in the inv of estate of her father, Matthew Woodruff of Farmington, 18 Nov 1691, Hartford District Probate, abstracted in Charles W. Manwaring, ed, DIGEST OF THE EARLY CONNECTICUT PROBATE RECORDS, 3 vols. (Hartford, 1904-1906), 1:526-27 (FHL #974.6 P2m). Her place of birth is unclear. The family was in Milford as late as 1673 when Sarah's brother John was born. Matthew and wife joined the Congregational Church at Farmington on 1 Mar 1678/80 (Farmington 1st Congregational Church recs, 1:101 [FHL #004241]).
    MAR: No mar rec found. Henry Summer and wife Sarah deeded their inheritance from "uncle" Robert Plum to John Woodruff, 14 Mar 1703/4 (See Milford, Conn. Deeds, 3:331 [FHL #004918]). The will of Robert Plume of Milford, 3 Dec 1703, proved 7 Feb 1703/4, calls John Woodruff "cousin" and gives to "my sister's children" (New Haven District Probate, 3:8 [FHL #005295]). Robert Plume's only sister was Mary, wife of Matthew Woodruff. Hence, Sarah, wife of Henry Summer, is a dau of Matthew and Mary (Plumbe) Woodruff.

    BIRTH: No birth rec found. Year of birth is calculated from age 12 on chr rec, below. Place of birth is unknown, as it is uncertain where the family was residing in 1642. Matthew Woodruff was in the Conn. Colony by 1 Jun 1643, when he was a defendant in a law suit, but the town of residence is not stated (J. H. Trumbull and Charles J. Hoadly, eds, THE PUBLIC RECORDS OF THE COLONY OF CONNECTICUT, 15 vols. [Hartford, 1850-90], 1:87-88 [FHL #974.6 N2c]. The family was in Farmington by Feb 1653, when Matthew purchased his homestead (Susan Woodruff Abbott, WOODRUFF GENEALOGY [Milford, CT, 1963], 1 [FHL #929.273 W86a]).

    BIRTH: Sylvester is identified in the will of his grandmother, Alice Baldwin of Aston Clinton, 4 Jun 1622, proved 14 Dec 1626, Archdeaconry Court of Buckingham, orig wills, 1626 (FHL #088556); also in the will of his uncle Richard Baldwin, of Aston Clinton, 18 Feb 1632, proved 29 Nov 1636, Archdeaconry Court of Buckingham, reg will, 36:65 (FHL #088503); also in the will of his brother Henry Baldwin, of Guildford, Surrey, 11 Sep 1661, proved 20 Mar 1661/2, P.C.C., 34 Laud (FHL #092273).     DEATH: Sylvester died at sea enroute to New England with his family on the ship "Martin" in 1638. His nuncupative will, 21 Jun 1638-13 Jul 1638 is now lost, but notes and quotations from the document are found in James Savage, GENEALOGICAL DICTIONARY OF THE FIRST SETTLERS OF NEW ENGLAND, 4 vols. (Boston, 1860-62; repr Baltimore, 1981), 1:105 (FHL #974 D2s).
