    Notes:

    BIRTH: No birth rec found. John is identified in the will of his father, William Clark of Northampton, 7 Sep 1689, proved 30 Sep 1690, Hampshire Co. Probate, 2:52 (FHL #879184). Date and place of birth are approximations based on family history and chronology.
    MAR #1: Northampton Vital Records, 1:99 (FHL #186161). This entry is very difficult to read in its entirety. For transcription see Thomas Bridgman, ed, "Marriages in Northampton, 1653-1850" (transcript, n.d.), 2 (FHL #186165 item 2).
    MAR #2: Northampton Vital Records, 1:99 (FHL #186161). This entry is also very difficult to read. See Bridgman, "Marriages in Northampton," 2. The original entry appears to be 20 Mar 1679, although it is not possible to say with certainty. Bridgman makes the date to be 16 Mar 1678. The latter date has been accepted. The year was probably double dated, i.e. "1678/9."

    Notes:

    BIRTH: No birth rec found. Date of birth is calculated from age 81 yrs on gravestone inscription, below.
    MAR #1: No mar rec found. Children of William Clark and wife Sarah were born at Dorchester, 1638-1658/9.
    MAR #2: Springfield Vital Records, 1:15 (FHL #185414). Wife is called "widow Sarah Cooper." She was the widow of Thomas Cooper, who was killed by the Indians at Springfield, 5 Oct 1675. William Clark of Northampton was made administrator of Cooper's estate on 28 Sep 1680 (Hampshire Co. Probate, 1:210 [FHL #879184]). The will of Capt. Robert Slye of St. Mary's Co., Maryland, 18 Jan 1670, proved 13 Mar 1670, mentions "nephews" Timothy and Thomas Cooper of Springfield, "children of Thomas and Sarah Cooper" (Maryland Provincial Wills, 1:422 [FHL #012841]). Hence, is appears that Sarah was the sister of Capt. Robert Slye. For additional evidence, see Clarence A.     DEATH: Northampton Vital Records, 1:139 (FHL #186161). Date of death is given as "19" Jul 1690 on gravestone inscription, below. Also see the will of William Clark of Northampton, 7 Sep 1689, proved 30 Sep 1690, Hampshire Co. Probate, 2:52 (FHL #879184).
