BIRTH: No birth rec found. Mary is identified in the articles of agreement of the heirs of her father, Thomas Meakins of Hatfield, 2 Mar 1688/9 (Hampshire Co. Probate 2:49 [FHL #879184]). Date of birth is an approximation. Some have supposed that it was Mary, not Sarah, who was born at Braintree on 24 Apr 1641. See Winifred L. Holman, "The Meakins Lineage" (typescript, 1958-60; NEHGS, Boston), 16. However, there is no evidence to suggest such a clerical error. It is equally possible that Mary was born between siblings Thomas and Hannah.

DEATH: No death rec found. Mary probably died shortly before 11 Apr 1705, the date of agreement of the legatees to the joint estate of Mary Allis and that of her late husband John Allis, who died in Jan 1690 (Hampshire Co. Probate, 3:132 [FHL #879184]).
NOTE: It is often published that Mary married Samuel Belding as her 3rd husband. See, for instance, Horatio D. Allis, GENEALOGY OF WILLIAM ALLIS (Hartford, 1919), 6, 7 (FHL #874219). This seems unlikely because she was called Mary "Allis" in the agreement of heirs in 1705, above. No evidence of a 3rd mar has been found.

Thomas and Katherine "Mekins," apparently Thomas's parents, were admitted to the Boston church on 2 Feb 1633/4 ("Records of Admissions in the First Church Boston, 1630 to 1687" [transcript, n.d.], 13 [FHL #856694]). She is called "Sarah [Beardsley]?" in Charles A. Torrey, NEW ENGLAND MARRIAGES PRIOR TO 1700 (Baltimore, 1985), 501 (FHL #974 V2t). DEATH: No death rec found. Thomas is last mentoned in a 1646 petition located in Massachusetts Archives, 45:11-11a, cited in Winifred L. Holman, "The Meakins Lineage" (typescript, 1958-60; NEHGS, Boston), 2. The bur rec of his wife Katherine at Roxbury suggests that he was now dead: "Katherin Meakins, mother of Thomas, an aged woman," bur 25 Jan 1650/1. Typically, death and burial entries include the name of the spouse of married women. Hence, it is believed that Thomas died 1646-51. It is likely that he died in Braintree. After his death, Katherine went to Roxbury to the home of her son Thomas, who is cited in her bur rec.
