BIRTH: No birth rec found. Lydia is identified in the agreement of heirs of her father, James Bird of Farmington, Conn., 5 Nov 1708, Hartford District Probate, abstracted in Charles W. Manwaring, ed, DIGEST OF THE EARLY CONNECTICUT PROBATE RECORDS, 3 vols. (Hartford, 1904-1906), 2:32 (FHL #974.6 P2m). She was the 4th child mentioned in the agreement. Year of birth is calculated from age 57 on gravestone inscription, below. Place of birth is suggested by family history.
MAR: No mar rec found. Lydia appears as the wife of Pelatiah Morgan in James Bird estate papers, above.

Manwaring, ed, DIGEST OF THE EARLY CONNECTICUT PROBATE RECORDS, 3 vols. (Hartford, 1904-1906), 1:97 (FHL #974.6 P2m). Date and place of birth are approximations.
MAR #1: "Farmington Births, Marriages, Deaths, 1645-1850," Barbour Collection (typescript, 1927; Conn. State Library, Hartford), 14 (FHL #002970). It is doubtful that James had any surviving children by his first wife. The will of John Steele, father of Lydia, named his children and grandchildren. There are no Bird grandchildren mentioned. See the will of John Steele of Farmington, 30 Jan 1663, proved 16 Jun 1665, abstracted in Manwaring, DIGEST, 1:239-40.
MAR #2: No mar rec found, nor has any mention of the name of James's 2nd wife been found, although she is referred to in Farmington Congregational Church records without name on 15 Jun 1673 and 1 Mar 1679/80 (NEHGR, 12[1858]:35, 328 [FHL #974 B2ne]).

MAR: No mar rec found. It has been frequently published that the wife of Thomas Bird was Mary. No record of her existence has been found. The claim is traced to Royal R. Hinman, CATALOGUE OF THE EARLY PURITAN SETTLERS OF THE COLONY OF CONNECTICUT (Hartford, 1852), 223 (FHL #974.6D2h). "His widow Mary d. in her old age, Jan. 22, 1729-30." However, Farmington vital recs show that Mary, widow of Joseph Bird, Jr, died on this date. If the wife of Thomas Bird died in 1730, she would have been nearly 130 years old.
DEATH: No death rec found. See the inv of estate of Thomas Bird [of Hartford], 10 Aug 1662, distribution 3 Mar 1663/4, Hartford District Probate, abstracted in Charles W. Manwaring, ed, DIGEST OF THE EARLY CONNECTICUT PROBATE RECORDS, 3 vols. (Hartford, 1904-1906), 1:97 (FHL #974.6 P2m). The estate was probated in Hartford, but no place of residence is mentioned. Hartford land records show that Thomas Bird was a resident of Hartford from at least 1639. He is last mentioned in 1660.
