BIRTH: No birth rec found. Joseph received a deed of gift from his father, Joseph Chamberlin, Sr, of Colchester, 18 Nov 1741 (Colchester Deeds, 5:109 [FHL #003891]). Date of birth is an approximation. The family was living in Hadley from 1688 to about 1699.
MAR #1: Hadley Vital Records, 1:3 (FHL #186152). Entry is very faded. Lydia died at Colchester, 3 Mar 1730 ("Colchester Births, Marriages, Deaths, 1699-1850," Barbour Collection [typescript, 1920; Conn. State Library], 37 [FHL #002968]).
MAR #2: Colchester 1st Congregational Church recs, vol. 1, unpaginated (FHL #003910). The mar of Joseph Chamberlin and Hannah Gillett is also recorded in "Colchester Births, Marriages, Deaths," Barbour Collection, 37, but the date is given as "15" Jul 1738. The wife is here called "widow" Hannah Gillett. She was apparently the widow of Aaron Gillett of Colchester who died in 1731. On 18 Oct 1749 the heirs of Aaron Gillett receipted their mother Hannah Chamberlin and her husband Joseph Chamberlin for their share of the estate. BIRTH: No birth rec found. Mercy is identified in the settlement of estate of her father, John Dickinson of Hadley, 10 Jan 1676/7, Hampshire Co. Probate, 1:187 (FHL #879184). Date and place of birth are approximations based on family history and chronology. Birth year is calculated from age 67 on death rec, below.
MAR: "Births, Marriages, and Deaths [Hampshire] County Court," entries for Hadley, p. 70 (FHL #760648). Wife is called "Mary" Dickinson, but in later records she is referred to as Marcy or Mercy. A duplicate mar entry with incomplete date is found in Hadley Vital Records, 1:15 (FHL #186152). Wife is called "Marcy" in this document.

MAR #1: No mar rec found. Frances, widow of John Dickinson, entered into a pre-nuptial agreement with her 2nd husband, Francis Barnard of Hadley, 20 Aug 1677 (Hampshire Co. Deeds [Springfield Reg], A:87 [FHL #844486]). A "daughter Barnard" is mentioned in the will of Elizabeth Welles of Wethersfield, widow of Nathaniel Foote and Gov. Thomas Welles, 28 Mar 1678, no probate act, Hartford District Probate, abstracted in Manwaring, DIGEST, 1:379-81. Francis Barnard was included among the heirs in the distribution of the estate. Hence, Frances Foote married (1) John Dickinson and (2) Francis Barnard.

BIRTH: Date and place are approximations. The earliest record of Elizabeth is at Colchester St. James, Essex, where her first two children were born. She is often called Elizabeth Deming because she called John Deming "my beloved brother" in her will, below. However, other possibilities exist and are, perhaps, even more likely. See George E. McCracken, "John Deming and Elizabeth Foote," TAG, 55(1979):28-31 (FHL #973 D25aga).
MAR #1: No mar rec found. Children of Nathaniel and Elizabeth Foote were baptized at Colchester St. James, Essex in 1617 and 1619 (FHL #1565420 item 17).
MAR #2: No mar rec found. The children of Nathaniel and Elizabeth Foote are identified as her own in the will of widow Elizabeth Welles of Wethersfield, 28 Mar 1678, no probate act, Hartford District Probate, abstracted in Charles W. Manwaring, ed, DIGEST OF THE EARLY CONNECTICUT PROBATE RECORDS, 3 vols. (Hartford, 1904-1906), 1:379-81 (FHL #974.6 P2m). Thomas Welles of Wethersfield deeded his interest and right in the house of Nathaniel Foote to the latter's son Nathaniel on 10 Oct 1646. Nathaniel was to pay his brother Robert and sister Sarah, as their portion due from Welles (Wethersfield Deeds, 1:159 [FHL #005991]). Hence, it is clear that Elizabeth married (1) Nathaniel Foote and (2), before 10 Oct 1646, Thomas Welles.
DEATH: No death rec found. Elizabeth was dead by 1683 when her estate was distributed to her heirs (Manwaring, DIGEST, 1:380-81). The death date of 28 Jul 1683 is provided in Abram W. Foote, FOOTE FAMILY, 2nd ed, 2 vols. (Rutland, VT, 1907; repr Hughson, CA, 1974), 1:17 (FHL #929.273 F739faw). No evidence has been found in original source records.
