Notes:

BIRTH: No birth rec found and no evidence that Susannah is a dau of Thomas Freame. Nevertheless, it can hardly be doubted. The only Freame family in New England was that of Thomas. He lived in Amesbury, where Susannah married, and she was born during a period in which the vital records of Amesbury are partly missing. Date and place of birth are approximations.

BIRTH: Thomas declared he was aged about 30 yrs in a deposition, 23 Nov 1680 (RECORDS AND FILES OF THE QUARTERLY COURTS OF ESSEX COUNTY, 9 vols. [Salem, MA, 1911-75], 8:37 [FHL #974.45 P2e]). He is no doubt the Thomas Freame apprenticed to Grace Smith at Bristol and bound for New England, 23 Feb 1670 (Peter Wilson Coldham, THE COMPLETE BOOK OF EMIGRANTS, 1661-1699 [Baltimore, 1990], 157 [FHL #973 W2col]). However, he is probably not the Thomas Freame baptized at Minsterworth, Gloucs, 4 Nov 1649, as suggested by John B. Threlfall, "Probable English Origin of Thomas Freame of Amesbury," TAG, 55(1979):44-45 (FHL #973 D25aga). It was probably this Thomas whose burial is recorded in Minsterworth par reg, 13 May 1675 (FHL #091533). Nevertheless, it is likely that he did come from Gloucs, where the name is prevalent.

DEATH: No death rec found. Thomas was living in Amesbury on 6 May 1708 when he and wife Mary sold land to Joseph Browne (Essex Co. Deeds, 20:151 [FHL #866023]). No further record.

Joanna is identified with other family members, including several proved children of Henry Pinder, on the passenger list of the "Susan & Ellen" from London to New England, Apr/May 1635 (Peter Wilson Coldham, THE COMPLETE BOOK OF EMIGRANTS, 1607-1660 [Baltimore, 1987], 137-38 [FHL #973 W2col]). Joanna was listed as 14 yrs old.

In 1672 William Sargent and his wife Joanna, "late wife of Valentine Rowell and administratrix of his estate," sued Christopher Osgood for a legacy due to the children of Valentine Rowell (RECORDS AND FILES OF THE QUARTERLY COURTS OF ESSEX COUNTY, 9 vols. [Salem, MA, 1911-75], 5:20 [FHL #974.45 P2e]).
MAR #3: VITAL RECORDS OF AMESBURY (Topsfield, MA, 1913), 327 (FHL #974.45/A1 V2a). Wife is called "widow Sargent" on mar rec. She is apparently the widow of William Sargent, whose will was proved 13 Apr 1675 (THE PROBATE RECORDS OF ESSEX COUNTY, 3 vols. [Salem, MA, 1916-20], 2:438-41 [FHL #974.45 P2p]).

BIRTH: Date and place of birth are approximations. Henry married and had children baptized at Cambridge beginning in 1615.
MAR #1: St. Mary-the-Great Cambridge BTs (FHL #1818407).
MAR #2: No mar rec found. Although there is no mention of Henry's 2nd wife, he apparently married Elizabeth, widow of Robert Andrews, between 1647 and 1655. The will of Robert Andrews of Ipswich, 1 Mar 1643, proved 26 Mar 1644, mentions a wife Elizabeth and the children of Humphrey Griffin, among others, but he does not explain his relationship to Griffin (THE PROBATE RECORDS OF ESSEX COUNTY, 3 vols. [Salem, MA, 1916-20], 1:27-28 [FHL #974.45 P2p]). Widow Andrews was admonished for reviling her son-in-law Humphrey Griffin on 30 Mar 1647 (RECORDS AND FILES OF THE QUARTERLY COURTS OF ESSEX COUNTY, 9 vols. [Salem, MA, 1911-75], 1:113 [FHL #974.45 P2e]). Humphrey Griffin of Ipswich sold his house and land in Ipswich to Simon Tompson, 9 Feb 1655/6. Henry Pinder witnessed the deed, and Elizabeth Pinder released her claim to the land (Essex Co. Deeds, 25:190 [FHL #866025]). Hence, Robert Andrews' widow married a Pinder between 1647 and 1655. Henry was the only available Pinder, and he was a witness to the 1655 deed. Furthermore, Elizabeth Pinder was called "widow" in a deed to Elizabeth Deare, 31 Jul 1662 (Ipswich Deeds, 3:3 [FHL #873019). Henry died in Feb 1661(/2?).
