    BIRTH: VITAL RECORDS OF SALISBURY (Topsfield, MA, 1915), 14 (FHL #974.45/S3 V2t).
    MAR #1: Ibid, 264. This is a mar intention; actual mar rec not found. She died there, 28 Aug 1728 (Ibid, 524).
    MAR #2: VITAL RECORDS OF AMESBURY (Topsfield, MA, 1913), 268 (FHL #974.45/A1 V2a). The wife is called "widow" Hannah Hunt. She is apparently the Hannah Clough who married John Hunt at Amesbury, 5 Dec 1705 (Ibid, 389). She died there, 26 Jul 1734 (Ibid, 517).
    MAR #3: No mar rec found. Nathaniel Ambrose and wife Elizabeth of Stratham, NH sold land in Newmarket, which belonged to her late husband, Benjamin Leavit, on 9 Aug 1739 (New Hampshire Province Deeds, 24:219 [FHL #015420]).

    MAR: Ibid, 264. "Last weeke" of Oct. Henry's wife is called Susannah Worcester. Estate recs of Timothy Worcester, late of Salisbury, deceased, show that his widow became the wife of Henry Ambrose (THE PROBATE RECORDS OF ESSEX COUNTY, 3 vols. [Salem, MA, 1916-20], 2:297 [FHL #974.45 P2p]).
    DEATH: No death rec found. Henry died between 27 May 1720, when he deeded land to his son Nathaniel (Essex Co. Deeds, 54:158 [FHL #866038]), and 20 Dec 1724 when Nathaniel refers to his father as deceased in a deed to Sampson Underhill (Ibid, 47:263 [FHL #866035]). Deeds show that Henry lived in Salisbury almost on the New Hampshire-Mass. border. He is sometimes referred to as "of Salisbury alias Hampton."

    MAR #1: No mar rec found. Widow Susannah made oath to the inv of estate of Henry Ambrose of Boston, 19 Nov 1658, Suffolk Co. Probate, #200, (o.s.) 3:129-30 (FHL #584127).
    MAR #2: No mar rec found. Ebenezer Ambrose, age 22, released his stepfather, John Severance, from all debts incurred as administrator of the estate of his late father Henry Ambrose, 4 Feb 1664/5 (Old Norfolk Co. Deeds, 2:108 [FHL #873020]). On 8 Apr 1662 John Severance, husband of "hir that was sometimes the wyfe of henry ambross, and now administrator of the estate of said Ambross, deceased," sued Edward Colcord for alienating a parcel of land which had been granted to Henry Ambross by mortgaging the same to Christopher Palmer (RECORDS AND FILES OF THE QUARTERLY COURTS OF ESSEX COUNTY, 9 vols. [Salem, MA, 1911-75], 2:379 [FHL #974.45 P2e]). The oft-published mar date of 2 Oct 1663 is obviously an error.
    DEATH: No death rec found. Susannah signed a petition, 22 Jul 1692, in favor of Mrs. Bradbury who was accused of witchcraft. Most, if not all, of the signers were residents of Salisbury (David W. Hoyt, THE OLD FAMILIES OF SALISBURY AND AMESBURY, 3 vols. [Providence, 1897-1916; repr in 1 vol., Baltimore, 1982], 375 [FHL #974.45 D2h]).
    NOTE: Susannah may have been a relative of Ruth (Leet) Dalton, widow of Timothy Dalton. Ruth made bequests to various relatives on 22 Mar 1663/4, which included Abigail Ambrose, dau of the wife of John Severance of Salisbury (William H. Whitmore, "The Dalton and Batcheller Pedigree," NEHGR, 27[1873]:364 [FHL #974 B2ne]).
